Finding A Little Calm

Welcome, I’m am thrilled you have joined me.

My goal here is to create a place where you, and I, can come for a little calm.

I’m just a mum. A mum who wants to share. I’m not a writer, I’m a mum. My posts will be honest and heartfelt and will focus on family life, health and fitness, my love of essential oils and inspiring quotes. Now and again I may throw in a little fashion and styling advice.

To give you a sense of who I am, here are 10 things about me…

My days are spent at home with my two sweet, sweet children, Noah and Lucy, who as I post this are 3 and 20 months. The joy these children bring to me makes my heart too big for my body, that’s for sure. And yes, sometimes they also make my head hurt which is where my husband comes in…

Nick is my lovely husband, who I take for granted more than I should. We met when we were 20, in Germany, in an Irish bar on trivia night. Fate, right? We are still going strong 14 years later and working on building a strong family unit.

I am one of 5 children and for that I am thankful every day. The memories I have are just incredible. The good and the bad. My brothers and sisters mean the world to me. I am 100% honest when I say my sisters are my best friends and a support network I could not live without. We’ve helped each other through some hard times, like loosing our dad.

We lost our dad in September 2010. 4 years ago. At only 57 years old, he was taken from us far too soon. However, we still have our memories and they keep us strong. My dad was a marathon runner in his heyday, an achievement both he and I share. Although he was much faster than I am, but I’ll let him have that one!

I will be running the Chicago Marathon in October 2014.  This will be my second marathon. Don’t get too excited though, I waited 5 years to attempt my second race. I’m not a real runner or anything like that!

I am truly blessed with some incredible friends. Many live over 6,000 miles away, some live close by and some I have never physically met (I can thank Cheers For Moms for that friendship group). Friendships are so important to me and I cherish them dearly.

I am an English girl living in and loving Chicago. Nick and I moved here in 2010 and I can finally say we are settled. We have our children, our home and great friends. It took a long time for Chicago to feel like home and now I can say that it does. Praise the Lord for Skype and modern technology so I can see family and they can see us.

8When I arrived in Chicago I started my own business, an online clothing store called Tilly Boutique. I pulled on my marketing and communications experience and love for fashion and got to work. I’m proud of what I achieved, but having two children within 18 months slowed things down and I decided to focus my time on them.  Having children changes you and the choices you make. You want the best for them which is why I became so involved with essential oils.

Essential oils…my new obsession. Who would have thought essential oils could get a girl so excited. I have not felt this passionate about something in a long time. I’m enjoying learning and growing while looking after myself and my family in a more holistic, natural way.

I’ll leave you with one of my favorite quotes.

Here’s to a great journey and a place for us all to find a little calm’.

Take care,
